“This discussion brought to life the reality of online communities for good and the profound difference they can make to lives over generations in the future. This was the 2nd QCT online discussion attended by The Duke & Duchess, who are President & VP of QCT respectively.”
The discussion was moderated by QCT CEO Nicola Brentnall and included 4 young leaders from across the Commonwealth. https://twitter.com/queenscomtrust/status/1296401745648783366
. @1RosieThomas has “been building @projectrockit in Australia to recruit young people, turn them into change makers, and basically send them into schools all over Australia, and teach them how to stand up instead of standing by.”
. @VeeKativhu founder of Empowered by Vee vlogged her Oxford experience & created an aspirational community 150K subscribers strong. “I’m going to go to Oxford & be unapologetically me, document it on the Internet,& encourage other students from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply”
QCT fave @hunterjohnson91, founder of @themancave_aus believes many of our “systems are geared around crisis mgmt &...[issues] can be prevented if we work at the root cause which is often the belief systems & stories that boys have inherited around what it means to be a man.”
At 14 @Brightonkaoma started a weekly radio show. Now, as founder of Agents of Change Fdn, he’s “training young people as ethical, young radio reporters...inspiring 1200 young people. Giving them the skills to report honestly & truthfully & creating this ripple effect of change”
Great exchange btwn @1RosieThomas & H&M on how @PROJECTROCKIT teaches young people to call out hate online. 1st it’s about equipping “young people w/ a sense of values & ethics”. “How can we expect young people to stand up in those moments,if they don’t know what they stand for.”
Great message from @hunterjohnson91 on reframing boys’ psychology from 1 in which they’re the center of the universe to one in which they’re part of the universe & their role is to serve & contribute. Lots of affirmation from H&M who are big fans of Tristan Harris & Brene Brown.
Connecting the dots...Tristan Harris, a @Stanford alum, is President & co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology. The Atlantic called him the “closest thing Silicon Valley has to a conscience”. Strong likelihood that discussions w/ Tristan were part of H&M’s Stanford visit.
“You can either train people to be cruel or you can train people to be kind. And, it’s really that simple.”

- Meghan, The #DuchessOfSussex
“The one combining piece here is courage. Despite everything that’s happening, it takes a huge amount of courage for you guys to set up a community like you have & also for other people to stand up to hate, to stand up to disinformation, to stand up to lies.
