The future of Belarus was never depended so much on workers as now. The last time Belarusian workers announced a similar strike was 1991. Back then — Belarus workers demanded Belarus independence, and they succeeded. Today's situation is very similar.
Reportedly, workers who supported the strike are being fired. MAZ discontinues contracts of those who joined the strike committee. Some workers are being intimidated and threatened with criminal persecution. Many workers don't believe they will be supported or compensated.
The leader of striking committee Siarhei Dyleuski addressed the workers receiving threats from administration. ”Everyone will be supported” — he says. Many workers are striking in the form of ”Italian Strike” (Work to Rule). They follow rules but decrease productivity.
