We had an interesting discussion at dinner last night, was curious what you all think. The topic was, ‘what if Star Wars had flopped?’

It’s kind of a bigger Uresti on than it seems. Nothing made geek culture acceptable to the masses like Star Wars.

And while Star Wars is mostly sf in its window dressing, there were very few sf films previously that could be considered a huge juggernaut of success and influence.

Without Star Wars, does Alien get made? Does Star Trek get rebooted?

2/
Would SF and Science fantasy and space opera attract huge budgets and big stars as it has since the movie came out?

I question whether conventions would ever have become the cultural signpost they have become without Star Wars creating generations of new genre followers.

So, say Star Wars flops. Does ET get made? Indiana Jones?

How is the world different now?

Just curious what people think.

Please respond to this tweet rather than the precious ones, thanks.
