Just pre-printed: New analysis of 91,267 10-80 year-olds (up to 9 waves of data each) tracks the trajectories of life satisfaction from early adolescence into old age.
Core findings: 1) there is an unparalleled drop in life satisfaction scores during adolescence (1/5)

2) adolescent girlsâ life satisfaction scores decrease earlier than boysâ: this is the only substantial gender difference in life satisfaction that emerges across the whole age range studied (2/5)
3) longitudinal analyses support that boy's life satisfaction trajectories drop later on in adolescence, but also highlight that they show more variability in that decrease (3/5)
The study highlights the importance of studying long-term trajectories to understand well-being in both adolescence and adulthood. E.g. previous studies highlighted adolescent girlâs worse well-being: ours shows that boys show similar decreases, only a couple of years later (4/5)
