Observe the costume of Babur's grandmother. This was the original Mughal costume.

It is a MYTH that Hindu costume of North/North Western India owes to Mughals.
To this day, such costume and headgear is found among the Turks of Central Asia.

Mughal Costume resembles that of Central Asian Turks rather than that of Indians
The North Indian & Northwest Indian female dress owes its origin to the styles already prevalent in North West India rather than the Mughals.

Here is an image of Goddess Varahi from Kashmir of 7th century before their religion came to India. Notice the style of her dress.
