1520: Vijayanagara Emperor Krishnadevaraya lays siege to Raichur fort held by Bijapuri Adil Shahi kings.

He defeats a massive Bijapuri army which fielded 120,000 infantry, 18.000 cavalry, 400 canons and 900 guns.

This was the first major Gun Battle in the history of India (1)
Krishna Deva Raya soundly defeats Adil Shah and captures the fort.

Adil shah sends an ambassador to Krishna Raya. Krishna Raya makes him wait a month before admitting him for audience.

Ambassador-"Give us back Raichur, horses, guns and elephants. We will be your friends" (2)
Krishna Raya-"I will give you back all that you lost in battle. But only on one condition. Your king Ismail has to come down to Vijayanagara and kiss my foot"

Ismail-"I will happily do what you wish. But it is not possible for me to legally enter another king's territory" (3)
Krishna Raya-"No problem. I will come to your territory. I will meet you at our common border near Mudgal. There you can kiss my foot"

Without waiting for Ismail's response, Krishna Raya took his army and proceeded to Mudgal. As expected, Ismail did not turn up. (4)
Krishna Raya-"Ismail, I waited for you at Mudgal to come and kiss my foot as promised. You din't turn up. Seems you are facing issues in coming . No problem. You don't have to come anywhere.I will bring my foot to your capital and home in Bijapur. There you can happily kiss it (5)
When Ismail heard that Krishnadevaraya intended to come to Bijapur, he immediately left his kingdom and fled.

Krishna Deva Raya's army now entered Bijapur.

Krishna Raya-"We're in Bijapur.Unfortunately, our friend Ismail isn't here to show hospitality . We need firewood" (6)
Krishna Raya's army plundered Bijapuri houses for firewood. When Ismail protested, Krishna Raya said-

"Sorry, I can't control these Vijayanagara soldiers"

After staying in Bijapur for a month and teaching Ismail Adil shah a lesson, Krishna Deva Raya returned to Vijayanagara(7)
