Today I'd be sharing music of some of the early pioneers of the Hip-hop/Rap game in Nigeria.
Towards the end 90s and the early 2000s, there was a massive rise in love for the hip-hop/rap genre in Nigeria. The Hip-Hop/Rap genre has been interwoven with...
the Nigerian culture. Whille some artists faded away along the line, some artists have managed to put their mark on the sands of time. Here’s some of the Veterans of the Nigerian Hip-Hop/rap game that reformed the game to what it is now.
@eLDeeTheDon: It's hard not to mention eLDee's name when the conversation about the pioneers of new sound and game changers in the Nigerian Music Industry comes up. He was a rapper and Producer till he retired from making music in 2012.
He was a member of the group Trybesmen; Kaboom and Freestyle being the other members of the group. Trybesmen are regarded as the pioneers of Hip-Hop in Nigeria. eLDee has 5 albums to his name. Here's I'm Leaving off his 2006 Return of the King album.
@Modenine: Known for his heavy lyricism and flows, he’s heavily respected and regarded in the Nigerian rap scene. In 2004 he released his first album; Malcom IX.
He won the Hip Hop Awards Lyricist on the Roll 7 times. He has 8 albums, 5 featured albums and 5 mixtapes to his name. Here’s Elbowroom, enjoy.
@NaetoC: Super C revolutionized the rap game in Nigeria; his fashion sense, his bars, music videos and slangs also. He initially started out with Ikechukwu and Uzikwendu under the imprint World Famous Academy till Storm records signed Naeto C & the rest of World Famous Academy.
Super C has 4 albums and several awards to his name. He left music in 2010 to pursue an MSC degree in Energy Economic. Here’s 10 over 10 from the only MC with an MSC released in 2010.
@ikechukwuKillz: Ikechukwu is rapper and actor. One of the best MCs to grace the Nigerian rap scene. He was signed alongside Naeto C to Storm Records in 2006. He introduced himself with the single "My name is Ikechukwu" in 2006. He has 5 albums to his name.
His filmography record spans across 13 movies, he featured in Wedding Party 1 and 2. Here's Wind am Well released in 2009.

@iam2shotz: 2shotz was one of the early pioneers of the rap game in Nigeria. He was a rapper and Songwriter. He’s now a photographer and filmmaker in the USA. He released his debut album Pirated Copy in 2004. He has 6 albums to his name. Here's Carry am Go.
@MI_Abaga is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist and producer. He introduced himself with the song Crowd Mentality. His collaboration with Djinee, Safe, was a huge success and it was his official entry into the industry.
His debut album released in 2008, it won him the Musician of the Year (Modemen Awards in 2008) and Best Hip Hop Artist (City People Awards) awards. He has 4 albums, 2 EPs, 4 mixtapes and a compilation album to his name. Here’s Crowd Mentality.
Mr. Raw: Formerly known as Nigga Raw. He rapped in Igbo, Pidgin and English, he’s the pioneer of Igbo rap. He won Best Afro Hip Hop Video at the NMVA Awards for the video of O! Chukwu. He released 4 albums. Here’s Obodo featuring Clint d Drunk.
Lord of Ajasa: Regarded as one of the piooners of native rap. He was popular for his lines in Yoruba language. He inspired many to do rap in their native language. His influence on the rap game is still very much present in the industry most notably Olamide and Reminisce
Honourable mention: Big Lo, Eedris Abdulkareem, Ruggedman, Terry da Rapman, Freestyle, Illbliss. 2Phat, KshowKshow, Overdose.
