Every day I think about the layers of darkness in Eric Joyce’s ‘sentencing’. The court report is the script of nightmare. That alcohol and his relationship with a high-profile journalist were used as mitigating circumstances is a corruption that makes you wonder about humanity.
There is no grey area: he is a *convicted paedophile* who has purposefully searched, repeatedly, for child/infant abuse. Accessing this material is partaking in abuse. Because of money, connection and status, the victims have no justice. I just can’t get over the sickness of it.
People who have survived childhood sexual abuse may feel re-traumatised by the sentencing / the business-as-usual atmosphere. It’s telling, too, that certain journalists — with a keen interest in predatory men, partic. in the ‘trans debate’ — are silent. This is absolute rot.
