Rarely do I say it, but some of the recent articles by Yogendra Yadav where he is washing the dirty laundry of Indian secularism in the public, is a must read. Of course he is being sly as always by hiding behind intellectual enquiry and cursory 'I am complicit too' arguments.

Like here,he acknowledges the absolute colonial gaze that the Left hs inherited in understanding Hinduism that explains the derision which we see e'day.
But true to character, in the next paragraph he feels that the H bashing is only ideological and does not play out on streets!

Whats more interesting is d way ahead for him.
The way ahead for him is for all the 'deracinated secular elites' (his own words) to turn over n play Hindu now. So do exactly d same role play that they were doing with Muslims for so long.
In Odia we call this 'Biradi Baishnaba'!

Unless it is a new set of actors leading this process (no matter how dubious it is), it will lead to the same end.
The secular elite are a small circle with high entry barriers. And by now most people know the various ways in which they could posture. So a little too late.

And YoYa might think it is a new thing but professional politicians unlike intellectual elites have tried and tested this.
Congress has tried soft Hindutva multiple times with mixed results.
But the essence of Indian secularism is minorytism and you have to come back to it.

So best of luck trying to redefine secularism in India without resorting to minorytism. It is one and the same.
