Some of the responses to the drowned Sudanese teenager yesterday really show how low this country has sunk these last 4 years. Once they only thought such things. Now they say them out loud & positively revel in their racism, ignorance and callous inhumanity.
I’ve seen people calling the boy a ‘Syrian’ - he wasn’t, but what do these differences matter when dealing with black and brown people?

Especially when they’re ‘illegals’- a term which basically erases the people it describes of any humanity.
I’ve seen him described as a potential jihadi. As a ‘dead invader’. As a fake refugee, because he tried to leave France. As a benefit scrounger. Naturally his death isn’t our fault or our ‘problem’. It’s all the fault of ‘the French’, who we ‘paid’ to stop such crossings.
The idea that we were ‘betrayed’ by ‘the French’ adds a little violin note of victimhood to the racism and inhumanity: the untrustworthy continentals not doing their job, allowing the jihadis, invaders, and benefit scroungers to reach our poor little island.
It’s atrocious to hear these people pontificate on who is and isn’t a ‘real refugee’, as if they either know or care. It’s revolting to witness the gleeful pleasure they have taken from this, their sneering defence of ‘our borders’ - a privilege based on an accident of birth.
Never believe that they are ‘patriots’ acting out of some misguided concern for ‘our people.’

These are racists, bigots and xenophobes, who believe their time has come.

They shame us all and corrupt us all. They deserve nothing but contempt, disgust, and relentless resistance
And if we don’t resist them and condemn them, they will pave the way for fascism and drag us all down into the moral sewer that they already inhabit.
