A quick thread about Qanon and Australian terrorism legislation.

It's important to note that whilst the FBI has named Qanon a "terrorist threat", it hasn't been declared a terrorist organisation either in the US or Australia.
If it had, providing any support whatsoever, or even just being a "member", would be illegal under Australian law.

However, this does not mean Qanon members can't be prosecuted for terrorism offences.
Any act of violence in the support of Qanon beliefs would unquestionably fall under terrorism offences.

The obvious implication is for anyone planning a Pizzagate style rescue of imaginary child sex slaves.
Under Australian CT law, unlike other acts of violence, the smallest acts of preparation will be enough to see you convicted.

This could mean making any plans (even just a note), picking a location to attack, or just agreeing with someone that you want to attack somewhere.
What remains unclear is how close Qanon's core ideology encourages an overthrow of Government under the "Great Awakening" and what role Qanon believers play in that.

If they remain passive observers for an event they believe will occur in the future then they should be fine.
However, if they encourage or seek to induce this event, they are effectively advocating for a terrorist attack, if not preparing for one themselves.
This could mean merely possessing Qanon promotional material could feasibly be illegal. It's important to note that these laws apply even if their planned "attack" is impossible.
There are a litany of powerful laws at the Government's disposal if they wanted to clamp down on Qanon, and I suspect they might if they ever become violent.
To Qanon followers that are unsettled by these laws I only ask; where was your outrage when it was only Islamic Extremists being targeted?
