Using multiple charters is a big step for a bunch of teams, but as for the individual rooms for players and coaches, the Broncos have been doing that for decades. When Mike Shanahan became the HC in 1995, he encouraged this practice, as it was how things were done with the 49ers. https://twitter.com/bylindsayhjones/status/1296161300922265601
It goes back to Bill Walsh, who understood that each player had different habits of getting ready for the game. Some guys sleep soundly the night before. Others are bouncing off the walls with nervous energy.
Having two players with different styles in the same room could affect the mental preparation of each. Walsh and the 49ers were revolutionary regarding this, but now, individual rooms in the regular season is standard operating procedure for many teams.
Note: In the preseason, rookies usually room with other rookies on road trips. Then they make the team, and get their own room.
