I started @AllSourceGaming over 6 years ago. While I don't run the website anymore, it really marks my 6 years of me doing content creation. So in celebration of it, I wanted to go over 6 important tips for people who want to create content online.
THREEEEEEAD TIME!
THREEEEEEAD TIME!
My first tip is A.B.C. Always Be Creating.
You want to constantly put out something because from each piece you will learn, you will improve. Sometimes the stuff I've rushed has been the best received. At a certain point, you just need to hit that publish button.

Next: you want to find your niche. There's a LOT of people who talk about video games. What makes you stand out? What makes you special? When I started SG, there was not really a website focused on providing translations and data mining. I wanted to fill that niche...
My first ever post was about Twilight Princess, not Smash. I was initially more interested in Zelda, but I felt there was a bigger need in Smash, especially as I saw other websites/outlets missing some key points. I went and filled that void. https://sourcegaming.info/2014/08/18/what-does-midna-mean-at-the-end-of-twilight-princess-spoilers/
Next, and this is something I learned much later: but pick your battles. I constantly fought with other websites because they weren't sourcing us properly. It was messy, and I've been able to make marginal improvements. But sometimes public drama ain't worth it.
My fourth tip is to work with other content creators. I've learned so much from being a guest, appearing on people's videos, or by working together on a project. I'm much stronger with the content I produce because I've learned to work with others...
...And with that, I suggest bigger content creators to remember to pay it forward. Work with smaller channels/ creators and give them a boost. Pass on the knowledge you've learned. The community as a whole benefits.
My fifth tip is to remember to thank your fans, and the people you support you. As a content creator, you are absolutely nothing without people watching and consuming your content. Try to engage with people, and listen to what they want. Keep their expectations in mind.
My last tip is to do it out of passion. Unfortunately, full-time work with content creation is not something that is immediately obtainable. It takes a lot of years, and a lot of luck to be able to do it full time and still be able to afford to put food on the table...
...If you are working out of passion then you don't have to worry about making ends meet, or worry about supporting another person with the income. Put only time that you can give up into it, and don't neglect the people actually around you...
...Mental health is super important, and something that a lot of content creators have issues with. I've created a barrier around my personal life and my online life in order to prevent them from intersecting too much. All things considered, I'm a rather private person...
