Story time thread: last winter, I was leaving the gym after a workout. As I walked closer to the community woodhauling van, I noticed a pair of shoes sticking out from under the van. I looked down and seen a native man intoxicated and passed out. The snow was about to come down..
I was able to wake him up. He was beat up and just a mess. I ended up helping him up, gave him some water and whatever food I had. Once his vision focused for a moment he squinted at me and said “Loren?” I didn’t recognize him but I said “yeah it’s me”...
He said “Loren I’m sorry I fucked up!” I told him “it’s ok bro, no judgement. I just want you to be ok.” He said “you think I can be like you” I told him “you can be better”... we ended up talking for a few hours. He vented about traumatic events while ppl looked at us oddly...
I offered solutions for sobriety but he wasn’t ready. He continued to drink hard for another couple days. Until I lost track of him. Then one day I was at the gym going beast mode and this dude comes up me says “what’s up Loren” I didn’t know who he was, until he said his name..
This good look guy turned out to be the dude that was under my van. He gave me a big hug and thanked me for helping him. He told me i helped in a big way get sober. He was doing tons better. My sober bro is running his own mechanic shop and he’s working on our community van.
It’s amazing to see him become what he is now from where he was. My last recent message to him was to recognize and appreciate who he is. Sober life is possible at any point in our lives. I encourage you to help us bring back the warriors. Much love to those on the sober road.
