Who was the most qualified Finance Minister in my lifetime?Interesting debate. Chrystia Freeland is in the conversation. Joe Oliver isn't. Neither is Flaherty nor -- dare I say it -- Chretien. John Turner? Michael Wilson? Maybe, depending on what you think of corporate law.

It probably comes down to Martin, Morneau, Mazankowski, MacEachen and Freeland re who was most qualified to become Finance Minister before getting the job. Other than the fact that her last name doesn't start with M, what separates Freeland from them?

Maybe there's a height qualification? You must be this tall to become Finance Minister, like an amusement park ride. In which case both Flaherty and MacEachen may have had some trouble.
