I have spoken to a number of people applying to grad school right now out of fear and desperation and lack of any apparent alternatives. I get it, I really do. But grad school is not a solution to your current or future problems.
Not saying grad school is wrong for everyone. Saying grad school is wrong for you if this is the reason you’re applying.
I need to go back into the hundreds of responses from when I wrote about student debt: PhDs with more than 100k in debt, trying to make ends meet adjuncting or outside of the academia, no savings, struggling to find childcare or financially unable to have kids
