I remember my introduction to Batman was Batman: The Brave and The Bold. There was an episode where Batman was traking down some criminal named Joe and these two spirits (The Phantom Stranger and The Spectre) kept watching the story deciding if Batman would end up good or evil...
I thought "well of course Batman's good, he's Batman!" But finally at the end of the episode he meets Joe and the good guy ghost (Phantom Stranger) seems to give up on Batman. I was a little kid so I didn't see where this was going but even at my young age I got what came next...
Batman corners Joe at a function for Supervillains and accuses him of killing the Waynes (I didn't know who the Waynes were yet) Joe replies "That was A LIFETIME ago!!" Batman, for the only time in the series, takes off his mask and tells him "My lifetime ago!" MIND BLOWN!...
