The world is a sexist trash heap.

However, it didn’t help Clinton that 2008 and 2016 were change elections. She lost to change and disruption candidates both times (though she held off Sanders in the 2016 primary). https://twitter.com/chrislhayes/status/1296088212910362624
But Clinton and Biden are VERY DIFFERENT CANDIDATES. It’s unfair to Clinton compare them.
It’s interesting that people keep mentioning Harris’s “hit” to Biden in the debates without putting it in the larger context: Biden was never “scary.” He was a white guy who was “safe” enough that he could have a cordial working relationship with segregationists.
That was never Hillary Clinton and despite the left painting her as a “Goldwater Girl,” she was part of the liberal Democratic wing in her youth. She was someone a segregationist would loathe both for her politics & her gender.
The “calm, steady, compassionate leadership” message was never going to work for someone viewed by half the country as a radical.
The GOP convention will claim Biden has “grown” radical at best. Most likely they will say he’s an old senile coot who’s being “controlled” by radicals. Conservatives, however, always put HRC behind the wheel of the change train they feared.
Chris Hayes was 13 (!) in 1992. I was 18. I voted for the “Lady Macbeth” ticket as some conservatives called it.
If you think of comparing Clinton to Biden, please watch the GOP 1992 convention. It’s a Hillary-bashing marathon. She is modernism. She is the feminist movement. She is multiculturalism (the “it takes a village” belief). She is everything conservatives hate.
It was arguably “worse” for the right that she was First Lady. She redefined that role. She was a working mom. She was a woman with political ambitions beyond her husband. Even Michelle Obama was someone who is like “I don’t want to be president.” (As is her right, of course)
Because I was (theoretically) an adult in 1992, I remember the HRC that was considered an existential threat, arguably more so than Obama in 2008. She didn’t benefit from white male comedy writers considering her “cool."
But this is the Hillary Clinton I “met."
Yeah, post 2000, I get younger people viewing Clinton as more “moderate,” even if I don’t fully agree. But comparing her to Biden in my mind is like comparing Pressley or AOC to Buttigieg in 30 years.
