How To Network Like A Legend

Let's go 👇
1:

Network = Leverage

Leverage doesn’t just apply to finance and investing.

It’s also one of the most powerful tools in life, sales, and business.

Most people think “networking” means going to events and handing out your business card.

But it’s much more than that…
Done right, networking means leveraging other people's time and connections for mutual benefit.

More specifically, it is a deliberate, focused effort...

That builds good will and gets people to have conversations on your behalf.
2:

Your Sphere Of Influence

The purpose of networking is to expand your sphere of influence.

There are two ways to do this:

1—Meet new people
2—Reintroduce yourself to people you already know

Most people misinterpret the first one and are terrible at the second one.
3:

Meeting New People

People associate networking with meeting new people.

That’s great...

But they misunderstand WHO they should meet.

You don’t want to meet just anyone...
The first step is targeting.

Who do you want to meet and why?

These might be people who...

- Can partner with you
- Work at a company you admire
- Can introduce you to a decision maker
- Invest in your business or buy your product
The second step is getting the introduction.

The best introductions come from your Close Network to your Edge Network.

Your Close Network = Friends / Family / Co-workers

Your Edge Network = People you don’t yet know or interact with, but who you can get an introduction to.
Most unrealized value comes from your Edge Network.

Reaching out cold to strangers has a low success rate.

But with your Edge Network, it's usually possible to get an intro. Also called a "warm lead."

Over time, people from your Edge Network should join your Close Network.
Summary — Meeting New People:

- Identify exactly who you want to meet
- Reaching out cold has low success
- Increase your odds of a successful first meeting by...
- Getting warm introductions to your Edge Network

Now let's look at how to reintroduce yourself...
4:

Reintroducing Yourself To People You Already Know

We all have lots of one-dimensional relationships.

There are people we talk with about sports, politics, or family. But never business or career.

These are untapped opportunities...
Stop bifurcating your personal and work life.

Turn these existing relationships—whether friends or acquaintances—into advocates.

How?
You simply need to:

1—Be open and tell people what you want.

2—Get people to see you not only for what you have done, but to envision what you are capable of.
The first part is easy...

Most people still don't do it because they're too bashful. Start being open about your goals. You'll be amazed at how much it helps.

The second part is harder...

But it's still doable if you know how. I have a longer thread on that topic tomorrow.
Summary — Reintroducing Yourself

- Most overlook the easiest part of networking...
- You need to tell people you already know what you want
- If you're trying to do something new and different...
- You need to get people to envision what you are capable of (thread on that soon)
That's all friends!
