This Masai thing is just an example that provides context for the much larger issue of policing and racial relations in the country. Check this out
Why is the first response to escalate the situation. Why does he not listen to the calls of “he’s the president of the raptors”, why does he push the second time instead of asking for the pass that “Masai should have shown him” (PS, he has it out already in clear view).
Well...Masai is Black. And so he gets treated like a threat, like he’s less than and given no leniency. This video clearly shows a hothead response that merits firing and tarnished a great moment for Masai. So what happens next is what is truly crazy but not a surprise
Despite CLEARLY being wrong... my man had the AUDACITY to file a LAWSUIT against Masai, the NBA and the Raptors (MLSE owns the raps). Assault, battery, emotional distress and consortium (lol wut)
FYI loss of consortium refers to “the loss of the benefits of a family relationship due to injuries. Some more detail on that claim in this photo here, but basically its saying that Masai’s push robbed his wife of his love and affection. Which is just such a reach
So
1. We have an officer clearly in the wrong acting in a way towards the leader of the NBA champions that is obviously biased
2. Him and his wife have the audacity to sue despite HIM being wrong, deserving to get fired

Again. Why would an someone feel like they had the right to do all of the above? Well ... lol don’t think there’s need to say the quiet part out loud. But it gets even worse!
I mean like the entire local police office all the way up to the sheriff, watched the video, knew dude was wrong and then decided.... let’s lie for my guy, support him charging Masai with a crime and give him paid leave for his terrible losses
Lol not only was dude racist (and just bad at his job) by pushing first and second and then asking questions. Not only did he muster the massive testicular fortitude needed for him and his wife to file a suit against a guy he just did dirty, not only was that suit egregious
But the whole “policing” system did what it seems to do best and prosecuted a case against a black man that was baseless in order to protect one of their own.
And if Masai wasn’t a multi millionaire, wit the full backing of a large organization and a very public facing role but instead a 19 year old black kid somewhere things turn out REALLLY differently. And they do, all the time, every day all across America and YES Canada too!
And when we say the system is designed to hurt us, that’s what we mean. It means that even if we are clearly in the right, and there’s evidence, that evidence can disappear and we can be jailed, prosecuted and criminalized.
And that why we march kneel and fight. And if you think your exempt from addressing these issues cause the oppressor “buys shoes too”, you’re letting the illusion of your fancy cars and nice house blind you. Cause fancy suits and titles don’t turn racism off.
