The symbolism and meaning behind Berserk's corridor of dreams: A thread
What exactly is the corridor of dreams?

- It's basically a ritual where you dive deep into a person's dream and gather clues to offer a solution to their mental state. In this case for casca, the ones who entered her dream were Schierke and Farnese.
Upon entering, The first thing they see was a field filled with Flags and the Black Sun. The black Sun obviously references the eclipse, while the Flags represent her former comrades, the band of the hawks.
They immediately encounter a wounded dog with a blind eye and missing leg. Schierke recognizes that it's Guts from the brand on his neck. What does this design represent? Why does casca view him as such?
First and foremost, Casca sees herself as a burden for Guts. Either it's the beautiful imagery of Guts dragging the coffin on an endless desert or simply that the flying monsters seem to target the coffin which Guts desperately tries to protect. (1/2)
Guts is represented as a dog in her memories because she views him as someone faithful and willing to fight for the things he cares about. At the same time he's ferocious and makes irrational decisions. The chains draw obvious parallels to their situation from vol 23. (2/3)
Another minor detail I want to touch up on are the five black rods which pierce Gut's body, supposed to represent the 5 members of the Godhand. (3/3)
Moving on to the coffin itself, the symbol on the front is reminiscent of the old Band of the Hawk. Inside it, we are met with a broken doll representing Golden age casca's broken mindset after the eclipse and sexual assualt.
We are then confronted with casca's cute and playful sprite from the Golden age, her true ego within the broken doll.
As Farnese and Schierke journey through her dream, they collect various fragments of her memory like Griffith saving her, the victory at Doldery, campfire of dreams, her intimacy with Guts. They're used to piece together the broken doll/ casca's true self.
The deeper they get trying to find the last fragment, the more darker and darker it gets recalling the horrible imagery of the corpses from the eclipse.
We encounter strangely designed monsters supposed to represent male genetalia, a result of Femto's rape on casca during the eclipse. They're also representative of the demon child's design, which is intentionally the last fragment.
The falcon is obviously the representation of Femto. It's the protector of the final fragment and files around dropping maisma which transforms into apostles. Dog guts and the group fight him off to reach that fragment.
As the group is about to be overwhelmed by Apostles and almost out of powerups, Flora appears recalling her promise to Schierke back from vol 25, an important interaction for her character.
They approach the final fragment and we are shown a terrifyingly beautiful depiction of the events that broke casca's mind all leading up to Femto's rape which crumbles her into the doll we saw earlier. Truly Miura believes in an art driven story and this imagery is solid proof.
Almost on the verge of healing casca, they find out the restoration would come with a price of exposing casca to the same horrors that broke her mind, a recollection to Skull Knight's cryptic line at the beach.
Moving on to the design of the heart with thorns, firstly we are again shown imagery of the spiral likely to represent causality. These spirals make multiple appearances throughout the manga and are recurring references. But what about the thorns? (1/2)
The thorns are a beautiful callback to what Guts said in vol 33. Some things will never be the same no matter how hard you try to piece them together. Such is the same case with casca's mindset, that broke because she couldn't cope with the horrors of the eclipse. (2/2)
Additionally, The thorns are what prevent her from seeing Guts. She will have to confront all those horrific memories the same way Guts did after the eclipse leaving us on a bittersweet conclusion.
What I absolutely love about this whole journey is that in no way did Casca's restoration feel cheap. Miura has always done a fantastic job depicting traumatic experiences and everything shows here. It was a moment built up for over 20 years and he actually delivered. 11/10
