I see where this person's coming from but there's a lot of things that factor into this beyond just "I'm not a top player so top players don't want to talk to me". I can think of plenty of reasons why top players tend to be cliquey (thread) https://twitter.com/ModernYasha/status/1295034202900049921
for top players mostly talking to each other, simply put, they can have more interesting conversations about the game with each other than with lower level players. leffen is going to have an infinitely more productive conversation about melee with zain than he will with me.
and there's a trend with, especially in ultimate, where this phenomenon is more common, there being a lot of low-mid level players that will only talk about smash at events, nothing else. and that's perfectly fine, but the level of discourse about it won't be the same.
on top of this, top players will simply know each other better than they know you. while there certainly might be some elitists, for a lot of people this can be for entirely situational factors:
-top players will play each other more often since they get farther in the same brackets
-lower level players getting out of bracket earlier will generally either leave the venue early or play friendlies, generally with other people also out of bracket at their level
-in most cases top players will have been playing for longer than you and will be more familiar with each other through this as well.
there are clear exceptions to this both with top players being friends with lower level players, and also top players who will specifically not talk to lower level players much, but it's not an issue that can just be looked at as "x player is or isn't nice"
part of being a top player in your region should be making the scene feel welcoming, but this isn't the first thing on every contender's mind at an important monthly, a lot of them are there to try their best to win and have fun in a game they enjoy, that may not involve you.
and also, keep in mind that just because you share a hobby with someone doesn't mean that they have to be your friend. just sayin.
and just for the sake of it, I say this from the perspective of a not top player
