#Random: I like what @SubstackInc is doing in terms of giving writers a way to monetize their work. However, with folks starting to price their subs at $20/month, there's going to be some winnowing. Readers will hard choices abt what is, and isn't, worth it.

Also think this gets us back to that idea originated by @kevin2kelly: 1,000 true fans:

Which means that writers will have to think about marketing and creating incentives and signals that attract those 1,000 true believers. If you're only looking at America, then out of 330MM people, folks should be able to find 1,000 people who dig what you do.

It's an interesting model and raises some good questions:
-What kind of writers are better suited for a subscription newsletter?
-Does a subscription model drive writers to assume they'll reach a point where they're making money from their regular/daily writing?

IMHO, $20/month is a lot for a newsletter. I could afford one such subscription, but certainly not multiple ones.

I'd love to see a choose-your-own bundle offering from @substackinc. So, for $20, you get to choose 4-5 newsletters. That feels like a better value for me.
