Realising you were sexually assaulted: A Thread💛
It isn’t an easy or necessarily a linear processing in accepting that you may be a survivor of sexual assault.
The time between the event and the realisation can be confusing and full of self-doubt - but it is important to know that if you believe you have been sexually assaulted, your experiences are valid.
If someone forces you to engage in sexual activity without your explicit and continued consent - that is assault.
In recent years, sexual assault cases have risen by over 14%, which includes indecent exposure or unwanted touching.
Allowing yourself to acknowledge these experiences for what they are can be a painful process for some, and it may take a long time to come to terms with it. That’s completely understandable.
That acknowledgment is for many people, a necessary first step in accepting their experiences and beginning to seek help.
Your body is your own. Your experiences, as a survivor, are 100% valid.
If you have been affected by sexual violence, harassment or anything that correlates, The Speak Up Space is here for you. We believe you.
