It's important to educate voters that the early numbers will not represent the final numbers.

The "we will learn the results on election night" is a modern invention of the television network era.

It's time for that to go. https://twitter.com/gelliottmorris/status/1296070949167562752
I remain a strong proponent of vote by mail /absentee.

It's safer. There's a paper trail. Ballots can be traced.

For minority communities, voter suppression often happen at the polls: long lines, closed polling places, people learning that they've not on the rolls . . .
. . .when people show up to vote and learn they've been dropped from the rolls, they have to go through extra hurdles (a provisional ballot plus a few more steps).

The procedure lengthens the lines and jams polling places.

I was a fan of vote by mail before it was cool😎
Also by now everyone knows vote-by-mail doesn't require the mail for returning ballots (unless you're overseas or beyond the reach of drop off facilities).

Filling out ballots at home means fewer mistakes because we have plenty of time for research and double checks.
Every state has different procedures. Some states use the excuse to make things difficult for the voter. Other states, of course, are more voter-friendly.

Getting your ballot ahead of time gives you the opportunity to resolve issues before the election. https://twitter.com/mistergizmo/status/1296128055732326401
Some states track ballots so a voter knows when it's been accepted for counting.

In some states, chances of rejection can be reduced by returning your ballot to the County Registrar of Voters (or whatever your rules allow.) The clerk catch common errors.
