Welcome to Mathews Co, Virginia. Renaming a school named after Robert E Lee has turned the place into a tinderbox. NAACP brought in Black Panthers to the school board meeting last night to intimidate, public “had time to” speak, but people against name change were shouted down.
The decision was supposed to be made by the first of next year, but that wasn’t good enough for the NAACP. They threatened a lawsuit, so they had a meeting a couple weeks ago so it could be added to the agenda, school board voted 4-0-1 AGAINST allowing it to go on the ballot.
They instead opted to decide by school board vote (eliminating the committee that was supposed to be formed and work on the proposal by Jan 1.) They held the meeting last night, “allowed public comments”, then voted (why bother when they already had decided)...
Especially when each one in their campaign promises at all the candidate forums PROMISED to not change the name, every single one.
Seems some folks don’t understand “promises made, promises kept”.
Dr. Bambi Thompson refused to let the public vote on it - apparently they’re too “uninformed” (read: “stupid” or “racist”) to vote on it. Here’s her contact info as well as their own personal business contact info, should folks wanna contact them & ask why the public had no say.
Here’s the contact info for all school board members. Here’s why this matters - next it could be your district. Next it could be your power being stripped in making decisions concerning your children.
If we conservatives don’t speak out against this in ALL states/ ALL districts where it’s happening, what other unilateral decision making power will school boards across this nation take from the parents / voting public who are SUPPOSED to be making the decisions?
We should call & email Dr Bambi here & let her know parents across America are united w parents in this school district & we ARE NOT intimidated by the hate group NAACP/black panthers.
