In a world of synchronised lovemaking—rain-soaked shots edited to the tune of say, Arijit Singh crooning—there comes a movie sometimes where, confronted with their first kiss in an Old Delhi gully, a boy & girl blush and falter.

They are 𝑆ℎ𝑢𝑏ℎ 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑙 𝑆𝑎𝑎𝑣𝑑ℎ𝑎𝑛's Mudit ( @ayushmannk) and Sugandha ( @bhumipednekar) and it is in their tender fumbling that we find ourselves. Ourselves, as we were when we leaned in for our first kiss with someone—anxious, hopeful, eager, nervous.

Back to our scene: Sugandha’s parents are in Haridwar prepping for the wedding, and here in Delhi, Mudit’s heart is beating. Our couple has exchanged smiles in lunch breaks, romanced in parks under bougainvillaea blossoms and finalised their rishta online.

Now, naturally, it is time for more.
And so, looking at the woman he braved a bhalu to woo, Mudit leans in—promptly learning that naak ka toh nahi ptaa, magar helmet visor zaroor kiss ke beech aa jaati hai.
Once, twice, thrice they try.

Kissing finally overcome, Modit & Sugandha find a harder (or softer—after this film, everything seems like a bad pun) problem. Eluded to as a soggy biscuit, a gun-shy baraat-horse & even a rocket Mudit's ‘gents' problem’ is actively discussed, dissected, even betted upon.

From the validity of the match, Sugandha's femininity, the question of Mudit's masculinity and even his father’s pride—so much hinges on its resolution.
Or does it? The only ilaach needed, director @rs_prasanna says, is of our minds.

As, for any couple learning the ropes of sex, there are bound to be hiccups—elusive orgasms, protection, erectile dysfunction… So much to navigate, all while living in a society that doesn't talk about sex or calls it Alibaba's journey into a gufa.

So. As Mudit marries a tree to spurn slander of his future wife, he purges all ‘others’ from their relationship. As Sugandha chooses Mudit for their love over their lovemaking, she chooses to wait, believe and make ℎ𝑖𝑠 'problem' 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟𝑠.

Teaching us that with a little shubh, mangal and saavdhan every dysfunction can have a slow, steady and (pretty solid) resolution.
