a quick note on twitter accessibility & disability accommodation

please read, retweet, bookmark, and practice every single day for the rest of your time on this wild bird app

thread 🧵
many people have written about this before, but it has not sunk in, so here we go again
try not to retweet any videos that aren't captioned.

both because they are exclusionary and because i cannot think of another way for ableds to *actually* learn just how rare captioning is
when including a gif or photo in a tweet, click that little button that says "alt text" and type a description.

every. time.
imagine what it is like to not be able to have any idea what people are saying to you because your text-to-speech can't understand it
hashtags should have the first word capitalized:

#MedTwitter not #MedTwitter
when screenshotting an article or any other image with words, like slides, make sure to include an accessible version either through a link or using http://justpaste.it
the spongebob meme is ableist at its very core. don't use it. don't like any tweets that use it.

"I dOnT wAnT ANy DisAbLed PeOplE tO bE AblE To UNdErStaND mE aNd aLSo I tHiNk ThEY ArE GOoD tO SHiT On"
everyone's homework for today is to talk about this with one friend from med twitter. I'm going to reach out to @ChaseTMAnderson even though it's hard to confront someone I love.

hold each other accountable.
@DrJenGunter @angie_rasmussen @drjessigold @gradydoctor would mean the world to a lot of people if y'all could write a quick tweet about how to make tweets more accessible for everyone on #MedTwitter!
