@DNC can we have a quick coffee? Can we chat about why you are doing this? What is the motivation here? What's really going on that would make you cut out the language on fossil fuel subsidies that has actual support across the entirety of the party? What's really bothering you?
Like @DNC this is, you have to admit, a little much. If we are going to commit to keeping the planet below 1.5 degrees as stated in the preamble of the platform, we should eventually stop shoveling billions of dollars into fossil fuel companies.
@350, @sunrisemvmt, @greenpeaceusa, @ClimateHawkVote, and a whole host of other climate facing orgs are ready to take the fight to @realDonaldTrump this year. Removing this language kind of feels like a stab in the back for all of us in the climate movement.
Like @TomPerez, why is @DNC even taking fossil fuel contributions at this point? The industry is hardly an ally of ours. Was making this change to DNC fundraising really worth it? https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus.php?cycle=2020&ind=e01
This should legitimately be a moment when the party is coming together. A lot of us, particularly towards the left flank of the party are trying to make this week about coming together. People like @BernieSanders and @AOC are making the case to the left to show up this fall.
This entire situation just feels like a self-inflicted wound that will threaten the unity of the party. @emorwee brilliantly called out in her newsletter that this would be like us taking money from big tobacco.
If there was a legitimate error, then let everyone on the platform committee, and in turn those working to support them know WAY ahead of time. That @VarshPrakash, @billmckibben, @RL_Miller, and other prominent allies find out that this won't be in the platform this late?
That's really not a good look. Put the language back in the platform. Make it so that the climate movement can feel confident in embracing this platform and showing up in force to organize this year. America depends on confronting climate change.
This stance is far to the right of both @JoeBiden and @SenKamalaHarris , let alone @BernieSanders and @AOC. Even libertarian and free-market conservatives oppose these subsidies.
I get that maybe your worried about the house seats in swing districts. We won those seats by putting forward great candidates like @ConorLambPA and that's what gave us a majority in the house.

But polling shows we can win on climate.
This is just one of many sources. @DataProgress has done a lot of work showing that Democrats can win on climate. We need to confront climate as an issue and the @DNC needs environmental orgs to help get @JoeBiden over the finish line. It's a win-win. https://www.dataforprogress.org/memos/climate-change-winning-issue-2020
Speaking for members of the climate movement everywhere who grew up in #CatholicTwitter households:

I'm not mad, I'm disappointed.

Actually, nevermind, I am legitimately mad.
This can be fixed though! Put the language back in the platform, and all of this goes away. We can continue our weeklong party that is #demconvention! We can continue to listen to and be excited about awesome speakers like @DrBiden. We can gush over how awesome that rollcall was.
So let's get to the hard work of electing @JoeBiden and @TheDemocrats up and down the ticket. To do this we need strong support from groups like the @justicedems and @sunrisemvmt. To keep them onboard lets #EndFossilFuelSubsidies and go hard on #ClimateAction . Fix the platform.
