Right now my lab is working in 2 shifts at half capacity to maintain social distancing, therefore I am only allowed to be in the lab after a certain time. At first, this was really stressful because I was trying to get a full day's work done in half the day. 1/
After a month or so of this (idk time is irrelevant), I am now appreciating the option to take time at home between experiments to think about my project and really ask myself how to proceed efficiently and with purpose. I understand I am privileged to be in a quiet place, 2/
with good wifi, no one to take care of, and lots of snacks/coffee. It makes me wonder if this is the "slowing down" we all need sometimes to fully understand/appreciate our science. In addition, it has also given me more flexibility to take care of my mental health 3/
(although forcing myself to take advantage of that is a different battle). It make me wonder how much this will change academic science - for better or for worse. 🤷‍♀️ 4/4
