#DistanceLearning mid-week 3 adjustments.

1. Do you see a difference? When asking students to share screen in Zoom, they have to tap on what they want to share.

One of my kiddos finally helped me figure out how to best coach them on this because I could not see their screen.
#DistanceLearning mid-week 3 adjustments.

2. If students use Chromebooks, sign in as a student to see what they see. Filters and district controls often limit what they can do and see versus what you can do.

3. Let’s talk about how to facilitate your PE teacher time...
4. Give PE teacher your Zoom link. Have them join meeting.

Since this isn’t a prep, I send half my students and PE teacher to a breakout room.

I stay in main session w/other ½.

We switch mid-way. I go to breakout room and PE teacher leaves breakout room to main session.
5. When it’s time for independent practice of a skill, invite students who want to work alone to join a breakout room.

Recreate all rooms (for a class of 27 I make 30 rooms) and auto assign 0-1 students per breakout.

But for students who want to work with you...
6. ...tell them to ignore invite and stay in main session.

7. Have early finisher activities for students who finish early. Duh, but it’s never been more necessary than now.

8. Take a photo of answer key for math and add to Google Classroom so students can check own work.
9. Anytime you can use @Flipgrid to ask students to explain their thinking about a topic (especially math), the deeper they will think.

10. Share a cheesy joke for the waiting room before you start class. They enter with a smile.

11. Make "Note Catchers" and model how to use them when reading with partners, in group, whole group during distance learning.

This one is adapted from @KyleneBeers and her Notice and Note Signpost work.

12. Send Ss to work independently in breakouts. T stays in main room to work w/small group.

Share screen & whiteboard & show work. When Ss finish in breakouts, return to main session for early finisher tasks. See note.

ALSO, T can see Ss trying to join Zoom. #DistanceLearning
13. If I move to a breakout room w/students, I am unable to see other students who may have lost Zoom connection and are trying to rejoin.

I’ll stay in small room whenever possible and move to breakouts as needed.

14. Keep writing lessons SMALL.

I WAY overshot the mark today using @Newsela and a @JudithCHochman sentence extension and fragment completion task. My bad. Not on Newsela or Hochman at all.

I’ll share a post-action thread & identify what I should have done in separate thread.
