Did you know:

If you have a premium streaming account, 100 streams of one song counts as one ‘sale’

If you use a free streaming account, it takes 600 streams to count as one ‘sale’

In a world of music becoming so widely accessible, actual purchases count more than ever.
After three weeks of a song declining in streams, that changes to 200 premium plays/1200 free plays to count as one ‘sale’

For album streams, they do not count the streams of the two most popular tracks(!!!) and average out the plays of all other tracks to convert to sales :/
So essentially if you’ve released two singles before the album, those plays don’t count towards converting album streams to sales. Which I think sucks.

See below. What a weird system. All that said: PLEASE buy music where you can.

There is also debate over whether muted plays count - as soon as Spotify notices you’ve muted, the ads remain paused, so it definitely knows. It’s not clear whether muted plays (and possibly songs put on repeat/loop) count at all.
So in conclusion... I know this sucks to hear, but when you ask your favourite artist “I can’t afford your album, but I’ve streamed it loads this week, does that help?” sadly, probably not as much as you might think.

Best ways to help: buy music, buy merch, come to a show. 🖤
