Hawks Postseason Reviews:
2 - Eh. Asked to carry more than he is capable of at this point in his career and staggered throughout.
5 - Eh as well. He's Ok in own end, but can be slow to react and pretty worthless in other two zones.
6 - Nice surprise. Was Hawks best D most nights
8 - Continues to show he is a heck of a finisher, but he needs others to set him up, doesn't create on his own or for others.
12 - Snake bit season continued but kept playing hard. Confident he'll be back on track next year.
17 - slow and doesn't drive possession but good creator
19 - Good against EDM, bad against VGK. At point in career where he has to choose offense or defense and no longer 200-ft player.
20 - He's never taken that extra step to being a star, but hardly the reason Hawks lost
22- Just a guy. Placeholder on roster performed like one.
27 - It was rough. Passive, out muscled, beat to outside frequently. Showed he wasn't ready. Hopefully learning experience.
36 - Just another placeholder, but he competed and was rewarded with a few goals.
44 - solid considering his layoff, but offers nothing outside D zone
46 - Solid in one game audition. Skating will always limit upside, but he is a usable piece moving forward.
47 - Why?
50 - Inconsistent, but understandable considering circumstances. Played great hockey at end.
64 - Competed and he can at least move his feet. Ideally a 13th fwd.
68 - Similar to Kampf, a bottom roster player who competed hard and didn't get overpowered or embarrassed.
77 - Growing into 1C before our eyes. Took on 3 phase responsibilities. Still needs to become more assertive and defer less. Needs work on FOs
88 - He's lost a step, so has to operate with less room, but still among most dangerous playmakers in NHL.
91 - Flashed at times, disappeared for long stretches at others. So, basically same as reg season version.
92 - Ok at times vs EDM but dreadful outside a few shifts vs VGK
Dach, Kubalik and DeBrincat are all keepers and legit top 6 fwds for the future

We knew Boqvist would struggle. I'm still confident he can become a Top 4 D

Everyone else either has limited upside or on downside of their career

Strome could work out, but he needs the right fit
The Hawks need to prioritize Dach, Kubalik, DeBrincat, Boqvist and probably Ian Mitchell moving forward.

They badly need to find a top pairing LHD to work with either Boqvist/Mitchell.
The Hawks D core is sort of like the Cubs BP. They're NHL caliber players, but not shutdown options. They can play limited roles (pitch in 6/7th innings) but there's nobody you want out there with game on the line. Need a couple of Boqvist/Mitchell/Beaudin/Vlasic/Demin to develop
