Below is why picking premium Goalkeepers is not the way forward, and by premium I mean top 6 teams.
This may seem common sense but below is the statistics behind it form this season.

We can see the so called big six place 5 of the top 12, with Lloris only playing a handful of games.
Straight away points per game stands out to be from the cheaper teams like Burnley, Sheffield United, Wolves where they don’t score a lot of goals so the goalkeeper is important

So the average points per game from the “big six” teams...
(I am excluding Kepa for obvious reasons as he has 2.7 points per start the lowest in the league)

This gives an average of 3.9 PPG

With an average price of 5.54 million at GW38, excluding Gazzaniga due to the low starting price.
Or an average price 1.54 (the amount paid over the 4.0 starting price)
Gives the top six goalkeepers an average points per game per million invested of *2.53*

Now if I perform the same analysis looking at non top six goalkeepers
The average price is 4.95 or 0.95 million above the minimum value.
An average points per game average of 3.78...
This gives them an average points per game per million invested of 3.97.
The average price is 4.95 or 0.95 million above the minimum value.

So obviously 3.97 is higher than the 2.53 of the big six and normally most highly priced goalkeepers in the league.
This is being generous as well as I did not include Kepa but did include the likes of Ramsdale, Pickford and Krul so the gap will be even larger.

What this shows is to sway away from goalkeepers from the likes of Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U, Spurs and Chelsea
Chose a GK from a team likely to face a higher number of shots and where the goalkeeper is more important. EVEN if they keep less cleansheets.

Overall conclusions.
Top 6 goalkeepers are a no go. Even if they will keep the most CS.
Pope at 5.5 will not be in my team. There will be a cheaper GK who matches him for value
High scoring GKs rely on saves so don’t jump off for bad fixtures. Set and forget.
