It’s late and I’m bored going through my camera roll so here’s an Apartment Sheep thread. Please say hi to my beautiful perfect daughter Freckles Junior.
To explain how I acquired an Apartment Sheep I need to first introduce my neighbors. These are my neighbors. They are, when they are not trespassing to eat tulips, truly excellent neighbors.
I should say, the sheep owner is very elderly and they are sadly very neglected. They were terrified of people when I moved here and it took many Cheerios and apple cores to become best friends. Please rest assured we are now all best friends.
Almost a month after that last clip, a few late babies were born to a few very inexperienced moms. They didn’t all make it. My human neighbor in the apartment next door heard the last surviving bumr crying one night around the start of lockdown and found her. There were two dead.
She texted me in the weeee early hours, “Do you want to coparent a lamb?” Uh, yes. Of course. What a question. It was still freezing at night then and this baby had literally never had ANYTHING to eat in her whole life
I worked from home (on purpose, before all this) so I took day shift. Neighbor took night shift. This is when I met her, just after her very first meal!
She hung out with me all day getting bottles every hour or two and joining me on video calls, which, let me tell you? BIG hit with the office. For scale, she’s in a cat bed.
Yes she is wearing a sweater. It’s a cat sweater with a sparkly unicorn on it. It was still too chilly for her!
Speaking of cats, she possibly thinks she is one, because of her adopted sisters.
She got better at climbing! Sort of.
Definitely went through a cling-to-mom phase. By the way if you haven’t been turning sound on for these you’re committing a crime, just listen to her!
Because she is my child, she enjoys D&D
Anyway she ate a whoooole it of milk and got bigger!
And then she ate a whole lot more milk and also my entire vegetable garden and got even bigger!
Basically she ate the whole yard as high up as she could reach. Blackberries, snowberries, roses, the plum tree, I got two strawberries out of the bed this year, she ate everything. Also? As a teen? Poppies. I finally pulled them up because I was worried she had a drug problem.
So this has been the tale of how I had a whole nearly-grown sheep living in the house getting baths and blow dried and brushed and belly rubs until she outgrew apartment life and didn’t need bottle feeding anymore.
She has her own little barn now at a little homestead where I visit her and her new goat buddies and brand new step-sheep whenever I can. She still prefers cats to other sheeps but her best friend is an 18 month old boy who she lets hug and climb on her for hours 😭
