A Thread on Megumi Fushiguro and The Importance of a Name
There's something about Megumi that makes him a fan favorite. Maybe it's his calm demeanor or maybe it's his abilities that could rival 1st grade sorcerers.

What I found most compelling about him though is how the clan system affects his character.
It is made clear that the world of jujutsu values innate talents over anything. This is best seen in the Zenin clan.

We have Maki trying to be the head despite not being able to use curses as well as Toji who abandoned the Zenin name for rejecting him.
The clan system shows its flaws in how they devalue their own members.

It capitalizes on the strong and discards those they deem useless. Gojo, the strongest, and Toji, the black sheep, are examples of these.
Not to mention the ongoing feud that the Gojo and Zenin clans have. I find it interesting how Megumi is caught in between these two.
Megumi means "blessing"

Despite Toji being absent in his son's life, I think he still cared otherwise he wouldn't have given him a meaningful name. In contrast, Toji went by the name of Fushiguro but we know that it has little significance when people insist on using Zenin.
Breaking free from the Zenin name is something that Toji failed to achieve which makes Megumi going by Fushiguro more significant.

Although free from the Zenin's, the idea that the strong are valued is instilled onto Megumi. A result of Gojo being the present figure in his life.
Gojo is someone who has been feared his entire life. He is powerful enough that even the most dangerous situations don't bother him.

Although the latest developments in the story made people believe Megumi could surpass him.
It might be too early to tell but for me, Megumi surpassing Gojo could mean him conforming to the clan's rules or him defying the standards the system has set by exceeding everyone's expectation.

Either way, future developments to his character would be interesting to see.
