I agree with this but consistently (as I assume Jim does). I think a warning and an explanation of the rules should happen the first time someone brings their religion or politics into work & imposes them on people suffices, but it can't be allowed. 1/2 https://twitter.com/xtreme_cent/status/1296034825640583173
eg, I don't think the case of the Christian woman who got fired for repeatedly trying to get her gay colleague to repent & go to church with her counts as cancellation because freedom of speech does not include situations where people can't get away & you've been asked to stop
It should be explained to someone who is expressing religious or political views to others in a workplace that this is not acceptable & that they have the right to hold these views, express them in their own space & live by them but not make their colleagues hear them.
I think it would be a very rare & radical interpretation of freedom of belief & speech that would demand that people be able to impose their ideological beliefs on work colleagues who don't want to hear them & that employers cannot warn & then fire people who do this.
eg, a white supremacist could rightly be fired immediately for telling a black colleague that he was stupid & criminally inclined because black & I think this should also work the other way & white people not be told they are racist & oppressive because white.
Just as a woman trying to do her job should not be subjected to somebody else's radically socially conservative views about gender roles, a man should not be subjected to somebody else radical feminist views about patriarchy, rape culture & toxic masculinity.
To be clear, the individuals holding either the socially conservative views about women's roles or the feminist one about the dangerous oppressiveness of men should be able to express them in essays, talks & on their social media accounts because their colleagues can ignore this.
But if they bring them to work and express them to their colleagues or even worse, try to get some kind of mandatory training set up where people are compelled to listen to & affirm political views that denigrate whole demographics, employers can veto this & discipline if ignored
