Lots of anxiety today about big increases in deferrals (potentially caused by the U-turn) crowding out next year's applicants. But today's data from @ucas_corporate shows 3% fewer UK deferrals despite activity yesterday to accommodate applicants with new CAGs
(By the way, the increase in deferrals for Welsh applicants represents only an extra 70 students deferring)
A few hundred fewer deferrals from other EU applicants too
Number of placed international students slightly up (surprisingly) on last year - but will they turn up? International deferrals increase by about 600
Even if some courses are full and can't accommodate newly qualified students this year, the universities have a whole year to plan for extra capacity next year. My guess is that it will be a comfortably small number (although obviously painful for individuals forced to defer)
