i might never stop fixating on the line "ek sau solah chaand ki raatein, ek tumhare kaandhe ka til" and i'm honestly okay with that. one of the best poems ever.
in an industry choked by love songs, this one exists in its own dimension. kishore kumar, gulzar, lata mangeshkar & r.d. burman at their very best.
daler mehndi is not just in it for the tunak tunak tun or the dardi rab rab kardi game and it's time we acknowledge that. also, can we stop overlooking the maqbool soundtrack, because it sLAPS??
this gem co-exists with another gem called chupadi chupadi chachi on the soundtrack, and we have no choice but to stan the genius duo of vishal bhardwaj-gulzar

"chhota sa saaya tha, aankhon mein aaya tha, humne do boondon se man bhar liya" this is one of those songs that make me feel sth different every time i listen to it, and that's the ilaiyaraaja+gulzar+suresh wadkar magic.
yes, i often listen to this song as a lullaby, and you should too.
literally every song on this album is a masterpiece, but this one wins coz it's my fav since childhood, and watching the video is part of my weekly ritual. man, the amount of time i have spent trying to learn the lyrics and the steps...no ragrets tho. obvs
gulzar sahab has written other brilliant songs about "sheher" but i had to choose this one because it's literally the most emo song in existence. and that is not an exaggeration.
the reason why this won over dhan te nan and pehli baar mohabbat is because it fits neatly in between them, and because i can't wait to convince my school bff to get married at 2:30 am so that we can dance to this and be as dramatic as we were in 7th grade
