Alright folks, eight hours into this board meeting, and after several hours of closed session WE'RE BACK, and the UC Hastings settlement is up. Stay tuned.
But first: Technical difficulties.
UC Hastings Chancellor David Faigman on why he brought the suit in the first place: "Over the last couple of years, things seemed to turn in the wrong direction (in the Tenderloin) and everyone felt that. It's not only felt griddy, which is fine, but it started feeling unsafe."
"I always thought that Hastings was on the same side of the city, but maybe we needed a federal court to help us get to where we needed to go." - Faigman.
This was the crux of the issue last week, where some supervisors were worried this would inspire copycat lawsuits and send a message to the public that lawsuits are the only way to get San Francisco to address its homeless crisis with such urgency.
Worth noting that this convo is more about precedent and symbolism, rather than the actual terms of the settlement.

The June settlement said city needed to clear 70% of tents in the TL by end of July. As of Tuesday, it has cleared 87%.
