Crowd of at least 200 just marched to the Multnomah County building on SE Hawthorne and Grand chanting "No cops. No prison. Total abolition."
Buses momentarily paused on the Hawthorne Bridge, then all turned north on Grand.
Dumpster fire at 6th and Hawthorne.
Someone spray paints "Burn bit*h burn" on the pavement. There have been a few other instances of graffiti so far, including one security camera.
Two more on Grand and Hawthorne. And I just heard a window break.
Rocks being thrown threw window. There's a smaller fire too at the front of building.
Someone dropped a burning newspaper through the shattered window, but it looks like it went out.
Office on fire now. Crowd chanted, "What did you see? Didn't see shi*!"
PPB just declared a riot.
People are getting their gas masks on as the LRAD blades orders to disperse.
Police pushing crowd down Hawthorne, pop snack van tires. Again.
An arrest. Police pepper spray someone in the face and yell at people to stay on sidewalks, brandishing pepper spray cannisters.
Police pushed crowd all the way to 12th and Salmon before leaving. This video shows them push at least two people in the street. I don't believe anyone else was arrested near me.
Crowd marched through neighborhoods for a while before reaching SE 12th and Hawthorne where someone asked if they wanted to go back to the "sheriff's office" (Multnomah Building). Crowd seems down with that, but spent a long time trying to figure out which way to walk.
Police were not down with that plan.
Reminding crowd this is still a riot.
Police left the crowd near Sandy and Oak. People were debating next moves for several minutes. Then police drove by again. There's also a dumpster on fire in the middle of the street. So that's at least four flaming dumpsters tonight by my count.
I left SE Portland about 15 minutes ago. A few dozen crowd members had returned to the area near Colonel Summers Park and were chanting, "Wake the fu** up!"
