There is a legend about Morya Gosavi, who was an ardent devotee of Ganpati ji .Believed to be around the 14th century.
Morya was born out of worship by his parents to Ganesh ji in Morgaon temple
Since childhood, he started worshipping Ganesh Bhagwaan after his frequent visits to the Morgaon temple,in the 14th century. He invoked Ganpati ji with his severe penance in his Chinchwad aashram where he attained Siddhi.
It is said that Ganesha ji,happy with Morya’s devotion, appeared in his dreams and granted him a boon that every time Ganpati ji’s name is chanted, it should be followed by Morya. Thus the chant ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya!
