A conspiracy fan theory: Famous indicates that Kanye and Taylor are actually friends & collaborators and Taylor plays an important role in Kanye's art. In fact, Famous is Kanye at the ultimate level of his artistry and Taylor at her ultimate commercial genius. A thread [1/23]
"I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex
Why? I made that bitch famous" is a line that set off a never ending controversy. Taylor fans think Kanye is an asshole. I get it. That line was straight up disrespectful. But maybe there is more to this story? [2/23]
What if Famous was a joint project between Taylor and Kanye that met commercial and artistic aspirations respectively? There are some serious reasons to believe this might be the case, proving to be one of the most complex collaborations ever. But first, some history. [3/23]
At the 2009 VMA's, Kanye famously stole the microphone from Taylor and said Beyonce had the best music video of all time. This was likely spontaneous, and Kanye being... Kanye. He was known for this type of stuff, but he had major fall out since this went too far [4/23]
He pushed himself into self imposed exile, Taylor got an outpouring of support including from Beyonce, he apologized on Jay Leno admitting fault, and Kanye eventually wrote Never See Me Again as a tribute to her. Many saw Kanye as a dick though at the end of the day [5/23]
Taylor Swift performed at the 2010 VMA's with a song dedicated to the incident, forgiving Kanye. Kanye meanwhile called his next album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, a backhanded apology, which fans and critics often credit as his magnum opus (it's definitely a 10) [6/23]
The incident made both Kanye and Taylor famous within each other's circles. He made her famous in Hip Hop, she made him famous to her fans (well, famous for the wrong reasons). Very soon, the names were inseparable in celebrity history. But somehow, they became friends [7/23]
There are a lot of pieces of evidence of a real friendship between them. Taylor dancing like crazy at Kanye's BRIT Awards performance. Or her speech awarding him the Vanguard. They clearly had bonded over the incident over the course of a few years [8/23]
But what matters the most is the 2015 Grammy's. When Beck beat Beyonce, Kanye pretended to storm the stage as a joke. People forget an important detail - Taylor is the one who suggested to him to do that according to Kanye. She had clearly forgiven him for it. [9/23]
Kanye, on record, actually talked about working with Taylor in the studio. They also had dinner together after the Beck bit / 2015 Grammy's. They clearly were positioned to make something together. But turns out it wasn't a song that was brewing, it was something bigger [10/23]
Let's think about what the song Famous is about in the first place. Kanye is making a statement that Fame is something for us to be thankful for, because it gives us something to care about, something otherwise trivial in reality. It's for mass consumption and pleasure [11/23]
This is evidenced by his highly controversial music video, that had a bunch of celebrities including Taylor, naked in bed together, which concludes with the message "Thank you for being Famous." It's a statement on fame, power, consumption, and controversy [12/23]
Is it possible that Kanye and Taylor realized the best work of art that they could create together is around Fame and Controversy itself? After all, this is exactly what detailed their entire history together. Lets also remember how, after all, they are different artists [13/23]
Taylor is a commercial artist. There is nothing wrong with that - she is incredible at creating products that are consumed by the masses. Grammy winner, hit maker. Kanye is different, Kanye likes to be provocative, complex, and covert. His twitter is clear evidence. [14/23]
Is it possible during that dinner, Kanye and Taylor agreed to create the most ultimate form of performance art on fame? That they could create a form of art that is a self-fulfilling manifestation of itself? Something that breaks the boundaries of art? [15/23]
A performance art that manifested itself to Taylor as a commercially successful product for the masses, the product being fame, where she was the heroine overcoming this bully. And art that Kanye could achieve the ultimate point of subversion and form. [16/23]
Remember that the Famous incident didn't just happen in a week. Somehow, the song drops, people were outraged and angry at Kanye. Clearly, he had crossed the line here. But Kanye didn't offer proof, he just said "Taylor liked the line." He waited. [17/23]
Somehow, 4 months later, Kim Kardashian released a clip that gave Kanye real credibility. It seemed like Taylor was a snake, a fraud. The song Famous.. became Famous again. It was a self-fulfilling song - this whole controversy was making Taylor (and Kanye) more famous [18/23]
Then... magically... magically.. the entire conversation resurfaces years and years later, which indicates all along Taylor was uncomfortable with the line. Now, suddenly, Taylor was in the right. But where did this recording come from.. Kim K randomly got hacked? No. [19/23]
The more you look at it, the more the "Famous" controversy seems like a never-ending, self-fulfilling prophecy that was coordinated intentionally. The controversy is the art. Taylor achieved her goal - commercial success. Kanye achieved his goal - artistic prowess. [20/23]
The point of Famous is we eat this stuff up. We want conflict, we want controversy, we want a team to root for. You see it all across Twitter, all across each of their tweets. The proved the point of Famous via the rollout of Famous - they created eternal fame [21/23]
Speaking to the Kanye fans here - this is the point of Pablo as well. Kanye manifested the concept of uncomplete, chaotic thoughts via an 'uncomplete' album. Kanye likewise manifested the concept of fame via begetting fame. That is art in its highest genius form. [22/23]
Remember, this is a conspiracy theory. I only have anecdotal, historical, and circumstantial evidence. But if it is true, Famous is one of the most provocative and incredible pieces of art. And we should Thank Them for being Famous. Collab of the century. Art. [23/23]
