DISCLAIMER: i am dumb please dont drag my ass if this is bad,, also i think the correct technical term for this is foil but i think i said mirror so oh well
Looking at Yuji and Geto it’s easy to see how different they are but there is still common ground in these characters, seemingly mirroring one another, they are opposites while still retaining similarities.
They are both people of immense physical strength and natural skill, with strong morals and beliefs, and a deep love for the people close to them.
Both Geto and Yuji rely on their strong beliefs and morals to motivate/drive them towards their goals,
Both Geto and Yuji rely on their strong beliefs and morals to motivate/drive them towards their goals,
but what their morals actually are quite obviously differ. They also hold a great love for the people close to them, for Geto this mainly applies to Gojo. His love for Gojo is shown even after he betrays the Jujutsu world. In one scene we see him speaking to Mimiko and Nanako-
about Gojo rather fondly, then after his death the two girls say they accepted it because Gojo was the one who killed him. This trait is shown with Yuji immediately in the first arc when he risks his life to save his two friends from his school club without questions or doubts,
and is shown over and over again as he risks his life for his friends. These few characteristics are about all they have in common, otherwise they are complete opposites. Geto was lost while Yuji was saved, Geto despises humans while Yuji strives to protect them,
Geto’s autonomy was stolen from him, but Yuji is able to fight to retain his own.
Probably the most important contrast of these characters is their relationship to Gojo. Geto was failed to be saved by him, his life ultimately coming to an end at his friends hands.

However, this time around Gojo won’t allow the same fate to consume Yuji, by fighting to protect him from the punishment of the Jujutsu higher ups (even if only for the time being). Another very obvious difference is that Geto hated humans,
and how weak they are, so much so that he felt he had to take it into his own hands to exterminate them. Contrarily, Yuji fights with everything he has to save even just one person, in order to allow them to have a right or natural death.
Then, after his death Geto fell prey to another entity who now controls his powers and his body. If we recall Mahito’s philosophy of the body being the soul then Geto is in there but is unable to stop whoever has taken his body. Unlike Yuji who even after taking in several of-
Sukuna’s fingers has been able to overpower the ‘king of curses’ for control of his body (until recently when Jogo force fed him like ten fingers ?, but I’m pretty confident that Yuji will be able to regain control).
Anyway, this is just my long winded way of saying that Akutami purposefully juxtaposes these characters to make their struggle that more captivating, and to highlight their motivation and goals.
Also,, I feel like their relationship with Gojo plays into this A LOT more but I’m not smart enough to put it into words
