Hi actors! I’m a reader for Zoom auditions. They can be really fun & easy if you have the right setup. Thought I'd share some technical tips so you can avoid looking like you’re being held hostage. Happy auditioning!
Lighting- if you don’t have a ring light, set yourself up facing a window. You can use clear packing tape to attach your phone to the window at eye level. Do a lighting test before entering the waiting room. If on a laptop, use Photobooth to do this. (It’s available for PCs too.)
Pinning- Learn to “pin” a specific speaker! This is the thing that’s been stressing actors out the most in these sessions. It works differently depending on the device you’re using. There are tons of YouTube tutorials! Watch them & practice with friends before your session.
Background - find a blue or grey backdrop. Can even just be a sheet! It makes a huge difference to skin tone & you’ll look a lot more like the well-rested, poreless ~being~ in your headshot.
Internet - be as close to your router as possible. Ask your roomies to pause their Netflix. If the picture is still choppy, click on the ^ next to the 
icon and uncheck “Enable HD.” You can also be cheeky & select “touch up my appearance.”

Get a free Zoom account and run practice sessions with your friends! All this might seem like a ton of work just for a shot at booking a gig, but auditions are the only performing most of us get to do these days. Why not set yourself up to have the best experience possible? :)

Oh! One more thing. If you check all these boxes, test your setup, and still somehow have issues when you enter the session, I can GUARANTEE you are not the first person that day who has struggled with it. Deep breath. Nobody is mad at you, everyone is rooting for you.
