Today in fish kill news: This fish kill is the symptom the disease Biscayne Bay is facing. This is due to pollution. Septic tanks, sewage leaks, stormwater, and fertilizers are leading to too much algae and bacteria growth, which suck up all the oxygen,
leaving too little oxygen for fish to breathe. These pollution inputs have left the Bay vulnerable to other stressors, like heat.

Good news though, conditions in Morningside Park, the epicenter of the fish kill, appear to be improving. Data shows that the pumps and fireboat
appear to be helping, but changes may also be due to winds/currents naturally picking up. We are now seeing reports of fish kills in Miami Shores and Brickell Key. The @CityofMiami deployed its Scavenger Vessel near Brickell Key to help with aeration efforts.
We still need reports of fish gulping or gasping for air to understand where conditions are still poor. Please email your photos and videos to [email protected] with the date, time and location.

Thank you to all of the community members who helped clean up the dead
fish! You have made an immense difference.

Today at Morningside Park, Miami Waterkeeper team members did not see any dead fish! But please continue to clean up the dead fish and report these areas to us. We are working to update you on locations where clean up is still needed.
Thank you again to @Compost_SFL for offering compost services to sustainably dispose of these fish.

We are also getting more and more reports of pollution events in the Bay! Thank you for reporting these so that we can get them addressed. Sign up to join our Rapid Response team
