/ I love that epic games is taking Apple head on. Here are some of my thoughts around it
/ Apple is a deathball of pure evil, sucking the soul out of businesses who try to actually put customers first.
/ Steve Jobs looked damn good in that black turtleneck. Also hot was the fact that he cared about building products by looking at what could make the world a better place. At the time, for example, it was largely around a closed, contained ecosystem to enforce user-centricism.
/ he wasn't blindly glued to idiotic ideas like the Apple of today. For instance, as he saw growth and interconnectedness in the way humans communicate, he wanted to make Facetime a global, open standard.
/ This uniquivocably makes the world a better place. (Some dude named Steve Hollister has a great word to say about this - Google it!). But when he died, Apple shit on his grave and buried this idea. Anyways I'm on a tangent.
/ Pattern is: Apple today doesn't use "closed box" to enforce best design experiences for users. They use it to leverage monopolistic power, inhibit competition, and widen their margins at the expense of their users. Or more accurately all users of technology.
/ Why should Apple care about all users of technology? Well, tech today is heavily interdependent. A company with many external dependents has high leverage, which Apple abuses through its app store policies. Enter Epic Games, a martar for the abused.
/ Recognizing the absurd 30% fee on in-app purchases relative to their marginal cost, Epic Games, like any business is left forced to detract from what they're building for their users. Most people bend, how can you not? Epic games built something *better* for their users.
/ Better for users. Apple had its Darth Vader choke around their neck, and while they were choking, they poked themselves a nice little breathing tube out of the bottom.
/ Sorry, didn't mean to insult Darth Vader
/ Epic games, on one app built their own payments gateway - the app got nuked. But moreover, Apple is a vengeful little bitch (sorry, again, didn't mean to insult all my vengeful bitches out there, ily đź–¤)
/ so they're coming after ALL of Epic Games' apps over some absurd terms of service bullshit, but that's an EVEN BIGGER LAYER OF BULLSHIT for end-users of tech. Because game developers rely on one particular important app-store tool provided by Epic Games - Unreal Engine.
/ Unreal Engine lets people all the way down from tiny babes up to video game gargantuans build really dope games. Apple's railing all these people too because they've stopped making the purpose of their business to build beautiful things the world needs.
/ Now, instead, the purpose of their business is to foof foof in all of our faces, but they've got toxic waste in their foof, so now we're all just getting foofed on with all this nasty Apple foof and not the good kind.
/ Anyways, I still use Apple products. Just cuz I'm a hypocrite doesn't mean I'm wrong. I just like getting foofed on, any kinda foof there is.
