Worth noting, however, what the Gov did not: That the WSJ analysis also found that Austin had the second-lowest number of murders of big U.S. cities and the lowest murder rate of the Texas cities.
Fort Worth, where the Gov held his presser, has had a murder rate nearly double Austin's so far this year. Houston and Dallas have rates 3-4x that of Austin so far. It's easy to have a big percentage increase when you have such tiny numbers to start with.
Still no details on this plan-- whether cutting even $1 counts as defunding or whether it's a percentage. Whether shifting roles between departments counts. All that will be for #txlege to figure out.
