1/Excited to share our #Tweetorial about our research on #ICU family member #emotions and #coping strategies recently published in @accpchest. Here’s our #VisualAbstract

https://journal.chestnet.org/article/S0012-3692(20)31505-1/fulltext
3/ From our clinical experiences, we saw that family members experience strong emotions while their loved one is in the ICU. We conducted a #mixedmethods study to understand the #emotional experiences and #coping strategies used by ICU family members.
4/ We interviewed and surveyed 40 #ICU family members @umichmedicine and followed up with surveys at 3 months to assess for persistent symptoms of psychological distress.
5/ We found that 2 out of 3 of family members had symptoms of psychological distress during the ICU experience and about 1 out of 2 had persistent symptoms 3 months later.
7/ Despite a wide array of experiences, family members used diverse #coping strategies during the #ICU experience.
8/ Understanding the relationship between ICU experiences, emotional responses, and coping strategies used by family members in the ICU may offer targets to improve mental health #outcomes of #ICU family members.

Thanks for reading our #Tweetorial!
