Maybe we should just…abandon zines as the paramount of fandom production…fandom for profit is one hell of a grey area already, but when you start telling people that their work isn’t profitable enough to be included in a passion project? Yikes.
I’ve heard all kinds of bullshit aimed at fanfiction authors over the years, including that they aren’t “real” writers and that their production is illegal, while fanartists sail by on the billowing winds of artist’s alleys and merch sales totally unaffected, but this latest
wave of sentiment that writers are too expensive and too unpopular to be considered for profit merchandise because their work takes up too much room and isn’t instantly consumable is...horrible. Like, you think any creative project, fanmade or otherwise, gets off
the ground without one or more creative writers putting in the hours? You’re delusional.

If you can’t afford us, you can’t afford a collaborative project. End of story.
